On October 3rd, 1993 information was gathered that their would be a secret meeting between Aidid and his top political advisers in a hotel located in the Bakqaara market. With the Americans growing frustrated with not capturing the general when they herd this information they were quick to react with a mission.
Their mission plan was for Special Forces to infiltrate the hotel by helicopter while marines covered the 4 sides of the building, making it so no one gets in or out. After Special Forces capture their targets they were to be extracted on flatbed trucks that were to be waiting for them out front. After the prisoners were loaded onto the trucks the Marines were to rally back to the trucks, load up and go as a convoy to the US command post. The US command post was the Mogadishu airport that the US took over. Mission time was to take no more then 30 minutes.
Black Hawk Down
Operation: Restore Hope.
Operation: Restore Hope was a simple mission gone bad in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Mohamed Farrah Aidid was the general of the clan in Mogadishu. He is who the Americans were trying to capture in this operation. He was labeled a high valued target because he had hired guns to steal food from the supply trucks and ships that the American government was sending over to help feed his citizens. There was civil war going on Somalia which was leaving thousands of citizens malnourished and thousands of children close to starvation.
In October, Farrah Aidid militiamen killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. This led to America authorizing an arrest of the general.

Turning Point
When General Mohammad Farah Aidid authorized an ambush on UN Pakistani soldiers that killed 24 and wounded 44, United Nations Security Council became more serious about the capture on the general. The security council requested for more soldiers and more heavy duty equipment were to be brought in to help out with the operation. After struggles of finding the general from false leading information of his wheres about and mission ending up empty handed on July 12th 1993 a mission was carried out to bomb where UN believed the generals hide out was. This information was false, 60 people were killed counting civilian women and children.
People believe this was the turning point with Somalians trusting and helping Americans in there operation to capture the general. To make things worse on September 23rd a American helicopter was shot down killing 3. With all failed attempts with the capture of Aidid, 400 American Special Forces were brought in to help with the capture of the general.

Leading Up too the Operation
Warlords in Somalia were rising to power and were looking to expand. With these warlords being power hungry, it threw Somalia into a huge civil war between all the different clans throughout Somalia. With the civil war going on it lead to crops not being able to grow in leaving food scarce. An estimated 500,000 citizens starved to death just alone in 1992.
While the civil war was going on in Mogadishu, the bush comity was over seeing the problem of starvation. The bush comity teamed up with the Red Cross to send over $193 Millions worth of food and medical supplies to help the citizens. When the Red Cross showed up, hired guns paid by General Mohammad Farah Aidid were sent to disrupt food distributions. On July 27th, 1992 an estimated 4.5 millions citizens were malnourished and an estimated 1 million children were in danger of starvation. The UN authorized immediate military protection of food distribution centers and protection of food convoys.
At the time General Mohammad Farah Aidid claims to have been president of Somalia during the civil war and the UN believed he was to blame for the war. The UN also believed he was causing genocide with hiring gun men to take the food so civilians could not get the food and water they needed to survive. The UN authorized for the general to be captured or killed by U.S task force soldiers. On December 9th 1992 while the soldiers were making there assault they were greeted by American reporters on the beaches on Somalia and there surprise infiltration was compromised.
